Bridal Lehenga Care
Lifestyle News: A wedding day and the memories tied to it hold an irreplaceable meaning for every woman. The bridal lehenga worn on that special day is not just a one-day purchase; it is a cherished, timeless treasure meant to be preserved for life. Moreover, the lehenga is often worn again during special occasions after the wedding, which is why every woman wishes for its shine, craftsmanship and elegance to stay as radiant as the very first day. Many people make the mistake of packing the lehenga and storing it inside the wardrobe immediately. However, without proper care, it may begin to appear worn out. In this article, we will explore simple yet effective tips that will help maintain the freshness of your bridal lehenga for years to come.
If any garment is simply packed and stored away, there are higher chances of it attracting moisture and losing its natural sheen. On the contrary, if you take it out at regular intervals, check it properly and follow certain precautions, the fabric can last for many years and continue looking as stunning as before. Whether your bridal lehenga is made of silk, velvet or embellished with intricate zari work, a few essential care techniques can help preserve its beauty. So let’s dive into the details.
Right after the wedding, there are usually numerous tasks to handle, which is why the lehenga is often ignored and cleaned after a long time. Any stain, dust or residue may settle deeply, making it difficult to remove later. Therefore, it is necessary to get your lehenga cleaned immediately, just like any valuable possession, and only pack it after proper cleaning. Remember, dry-cleaning is the most effective method as it helps maintain the shine and quality of the fabric.
To retain the glow of the garment, periodic polishing is essential. Decorating or lightly refreshing your bridal lehenga, dupatta, Banarasi saree or any handwoven attire every few days will not only enhance its shine but also help maintain the strength of the fabric threads. This also prevents damage to the zari work. It is one of the best ways to give your outfit a new look even years later.
When packing your lehenga or saree in the wardrobe, be mindful while folding it. For instance, to avoid pressure on the embroidery, fold heavy sections in different directions. Place a layer of tissue paper between the folds. Likewise, while folding a saree, avoid pressing the creases too hard and insert a layer of tissue between each fold. Every few days, unfold the lehenga or saree completely and re-fold it in different directions to avoid permanent crease marks.
Never store your bridal lehenga or wedding saree directly in a plastic bag. Instead, first place it in a cotton or muslin fabric storage bag, and then put that inside a plastic cover. You may also keep a pouch of anti-insect powder near the storage area, but ensure it does not come in direct contact with the garment.
Handcrafted sarees, lehengas with heavy zari work and similar outfits tend to absorb moisture and lose their shine and fragrance if sealed in a box for a long time. Therefore, every 2–3 months, expose them to mild sunlight. If there is zari work, instead place them in shaded, well-ventilated air. This helps remove moisture and improves the shelf life of both the fabric and the intricate embellishments.
